Destiny of the Daleks by @cheezypeas
"If you're supposed to be the superior race of the universe, why don't you try climbing after us? Bye-bye!"
After escaping from the Black Guardian in The Armageddon Factor, The Doctor and Romana find the randomiser has taken them to a planet which is heavily irradiated. The Doctor gives Romana some pills to counteract the radiation and off they set in a planet that suspiciously looks like a quarry, until an explosion halts them in their tracks.
The Doctor is trapped and Romana is captured by Daleks. The Doctor learns from the Movellans who are at war with the Daleks that he is on the planet Skaro and soon enough The Doctor is reunited with a familiar old foe.....
A story full of war, conflict and mind games to boot. We see the Doctor threaten to murder Davros, and indulge in a spot of Dalek disorientation which should be a recognised Olympic sport.
This story is Terry Nation's swan song to Who, although he has modestly said the writing credit should go to Douglas Adams who he said "wrote 98% of it" This was Douglas' first story as Script Editor, and with the story containing his unique and clever humour coupled with mention of one of his characters from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy its hard not to miss his wonderful unique touches to this fantastic story.
This story has another first, Romana regenerates and we see Lalla Ward for the first time. This story significantly focuses on her which is a great way to introduce a new actress and allow for continuity. Also her choices of looks are a amusing way to open up the story and indeed the new series.
So join us this Friday night for megalomaniac insanity, slave labour, explosions and kamikaze Daleks. Oh, and do remember to take your anti radiation pills!
